Rules and routines

We all have to have some rules. Even the most hardened anarchist live by some rule or another otherwise thed never get anything done. In school its no different. The teacher and pupils both live by sets of rules. The good thing for teachers is that they are free to set the rules for the pupils - as long as they are sort of reasonable!
A set of classroom rules will probably include the whole school rules and also any rules that the individual teacher feels are important. Health and safety issues also need to be addressed in practical based lessons.
An example of a typical science teachers class rules might include:
1 Arrive to your lesson on time
2 Respect your teacher and your classmates.
3 Follow your teacher’s instructions
4 No eating in the lab
5 Bring the correct equipment to class
6 Do not run in the lab
7 If you break or spill something, tell your teacher immediately.
8 Go to the toilet before the lesson
9 Always do your best
10 Put your hand up if you want to talk to your teacher or classmates.
Experiment with your own set of rules. Let common sense prevail. Try to keep them simple so the kids don’t rule overload.
There are two things that go along with the rules:
Sanctions or consequences if you break the rules
praise and rewards for those who abide by the rules.
